Our thoughts: The Big Easy (Portland)

A week after an ice stormed knocked out power to half the state, the first big snowstorm of the season hit us on the night of our last show for the year, a one song performance at WCYY’s “Home for the Holidaze” at the Big Easy. Mark Curdo from WCYY kept texting all the participants that the show was on but the city might declare a nighttime parking ban in Portland, so logistics got a bit sticky. Instead of all just meeting up at the club, Jack, Runtt and I all rode in together, and since Runtt had to get up at 4am the next day, we would all leave together right after our performance, which was early

A few bands dropped off the bill, so we “volunteered” to perform an original as well. To be honest, I don’t think we particularly went over with the crowd, which was so diverse they did not know what to make of us. We had hip-hop performing right before us and jamband/singer songwriter right after us, so you can imagine how they would react to progressive metal playing Beethoven. I foolishly thought everyone would at least recognize the melody, as it’s probably the second most recognizable classical music piece written, but I guess I was wrong. The WCYY folks (Robin Ivy and Mark Curdo) loved it, though, so that counts for something.

Unfortunately, the hip hoppers and the jam band were the only other acts I was able to see. The jam band singer had a great voice. The Hip Hop guys were great performers, but lost me at the lyric about liking quality clothes so they shoplift them. Or at least that’s what it sounded like. Guys, if I got it wrong please correct me.
