Our thoughts: KC's Tap (Pawtucket RI)

w/Shroud of Bereavement Sin of Angels and some death metal band

Our first gig in RI and it’s in Pawtucket, a decidedly ratty-looking town near Providence that unpleasantly reminded me of where I grew up in NJ. Fortunately the club had a parking lot. The club itself was quite nice, though: a hangout bar in one room and the stage in another, with good sound and everything. Attendance wasn’t stellar but lot’s of family from southern New England showed up, which is always good. Openers were a death-metal band made of young types who’s name I never caught – the logo on their demo was so ornately death-metal that I couldn’t read it. (The demo was good, though.) Next up were Sins of Angels: four huge guys with huge stacks performing classic doom – and in a circle no less, just like they do at band practice, I would assume. After the all that grind, we were a plesant change of pace – toes tapped and people smiled. (Our drummer Captain Awesome was particularly on that night.) Shroud finally went on quite late and were mystifying as usual. It’s amazing how such power can be heard in one band from New England.
