Our thoughts: Old Geno's (Portland ME)
New Years Eve
w/Pigboat, Covered in Bees, The Chairs
I guess our turnout opening for Ocean impressed the club’s booking gal as well as it did us, cuz we were asked to headline on New Year’s Eve. Yee-hah! However, when we go there, apparently Pigboat and Covered in Bees were each told the same thing, so there was some confusion as to who would go on when. It was eventually settled that we would play at midnight, so my massive ego was satiated. Starting off was a new group made up of amateur actors called the Chairs, who were very polite and very old – they looked like college professors. Still, they were “pleasant” sounding and threw enough twists into a 60′s pop/rock style to keep it interesting. Covered in Bees agreed to play second and were a total hoot! Vocalist Boo was Mr. Energy and quite the entertainer. Ou set came off really good and there was that first spark of “the magic”, where the music becomes a bigger force than yourself and spurs you on like wagonmaster driving the wagon. Reaching that point at only the third show is a very good sign of things to come. Pigboat finished up the evening with a set as furious as Covered in Bees. Being new on the local scene, this was my first exposure to both bands, and was really blown away.
